The BBC report states over 711 million e-mail addresses have been scooped up by a spambot. Some of the compromised e-mail addresses also contained other personal information that can be used to help phishing e-mails target your e-mail accounts. In some cases the e-mail information stolen may also contain passwords.
The sever containing this spambot is located in the Netherlands but has not yet been shut done. There is a website that you can use to see if your e-mail address was one of the addresses that had been scooped up. Unfortunately currently, there is check to see if your password was also compromised. It is recommended that if your e-mail is on the list, that you change your password. Also you need to be diligent in the e-mails that you receive to make sure that you only open attachments that you are expecting from known sources as the attachments can contain other malware.
